Everyone enjoyed the Holiday Party that was held at Maryland's house on December 11. The Christmas Tree was bright and cheerful and the kitchen was full of good smells! She served a tasty luncheon that covered her kitchen counter and the dining room table supported a potluck of desserts and healthy options. There was something for everyone.
Maryland had a drawing of names for door prizes which were books that encouraged self growth and creativity.
The Holiday Party was a great success for sharing ideas and friendships.
After enjoying the lunch, everyone gathered around and participated in a "show and tell". Then to wrap up the year, the afternoon was finished with the guild business of electing new officers for 2006.
Show and Tell
Members shared in the "show and tell"
Gay Bell's showed her recent use of china painting.Gay brought some of her semester results from taking a class in China Painting. She incorporated semi-nudes with the flowers the class studied. Learning how to load the brush with the oil based paints and lay it down on the surface where you want it is the trick. The erase tool and the cotton silk dabber are essential. She recommended the lessons in interpreting light & color found in the book "Painting the Impressionist Landscape". If you would like to understand the warm and cool theory of color...this is a good study. Color charts for enamels were handed out.
Sandra presented her latest works which related to a show she entered on the "Day of the Dead". She used silver reposse' of skeletons that were very excellently done around a portrait in enamel. She had a beautiful plique-a-jour bowl that was held up by 2 constructed silver skeletons that had hollow PMC heads. This was a very expensive item. Ribs and long bones were all represented! Raku bowls with bodies and bones rounded out the collection.
Alana has been very busy selling her work at open studios. She showed her plique-a-jour wire mesh shells that especially show off on light boxes or in a window. She has been crocheting wonderful twisted bead necklaces. Some show off her exotic designer enamel pieces.
Nancy went to a workshop on Design and Creativity. She bought a beautiful brochure that was inspired by the brainstorming that was done in this class that showed off the different aspects of her jewelry line. Her experience was mind expanding and very enjoyable. She encourages everyone to take classes that may inspire you and encourage unimagined directions in your work....and don't always focus on just technical classes.
Margarita gave a wonderful presentation. It was an overview of her enameling, jewelry and accessory design career. She brought her portfolio which gave examples of each phase of her work. She began enameling at the age of 14 and owned her own store in San Francisco when she was in her 20's. She sold her enamels and took in commissions. She also began designing accessories out of natural products such as cow horn and sea shells and progressed to plastics. She showed a sample purse made out of plastic with imbedded gold foil that was very cool. Everyone enjoyed the hearing about her adventurous enterprises.
