NCEG Zoom Presentation with Calina Shevlin: Rose Engine Lathe and Straight Line Engine Lathe
Sunday, November 8th, 10AM to 11:30AM
(Zoom meeting information will be sent in a separate email before the presentation.)
Calina Shevlin will be give NCEG members an introduction to the Rose Engine Lathe and the Straight Line Engine Lathe and their parts, used to create guilloché that is often used in enameling, watches, and Fabergé.
Calina Shevlin first fell in love with the art of guilloché while studying at the University of North Texas (M.F.A. Jewelry and Metals). Upon graduating, Calina was promptly invited to relocate from the U.S. to Switzerland and do guilloché professionally at one of the few watch manufacturers specializing in guilloché in house. In 2016, Calina decided it was time for her own workshop, and is now one of only a handful of artists doing it professionally. She passionately shares her craft through her custom jewelry and classes.
Calina’s book ‘Guilloché: A History and Practical Manual’
by Schiffer Publishing, 2017, is published in The Santa Fe Symposium books for 2018 (guilloché) and 2019 (enameling).
Calina currently uses her workshop to work out problems and create new styles of guilloché and enameling, intended to inspire other artists to push the boundaries and try new things. If you are interested in custom guilloché plates (which you can then cut, form and solder, and enamel on) you can purchase here.
