Artist Statement:
"In the last several years, the focus of my work has been to incorporate enamel into my metal compositions. These hand held instruments have an amulet feel that evoke power and perhaps a little mystery. The small mirror on one side captures and reflects while the enamel side references the aging process, relationships, and sensuality. The tactile qualities of the matte enamel, the dark patinas used on precious metals , and the lush overlays of patterns all play into the final composition. The power of enamel is in the texture, the color and the subliminal images that color can elicit. My sculpture is successful if the viewer is not romanced by the lush color but sees the color as one component. " - Jan
